i decided to re format my C drive and re install windows
XP- I deleted the existing HDD partitions and reformatted
the drive (as a NTFS volume) when reinstalling XP pro the
setrup sequence starts as normal, but freezes once i
restart.
The install sequence will progress to the install sequence
(with blue background and guided tour of Windows XP
features) and will the then freeze, whit no real HDD
activity taking place. Ive tried leaving the PC on
overnight, re fomatting again, but cant seeem to get round
it. Any ideas????

Thanks for your help

Be sure all peripherals (printers, scanners, cameras) are disconnected
and any BIOS-level antivirus is disabled. If you are already doing a
clean install and the installation is failing, you probably have bad
hardware. Start with a RAM test - I like Memtest86 from
www.memtest86.com - and let the test run for an extended time, like
overnight (unless you get errors immediately). If the RAM is good, then
run a hard drive diagnostic utility, which you can get from the drive
mftr.'s website.
