First make sure your bios is set to boot from cd, then with the disk in your
drive restart your computer and follow the prompts for a repair install.
Here is a link to some instructions for the repair install..print them out
if you like..the link is from The Elder Geeks web site. Scroll down to
Windows Installation CD - Repair Current Installation
http://www.theeldergeek.com/repairing_windows_xp.htm
This will keep all you personal documents, etc in tact, but be advised that
it does bring your computer back to a 'like new' state, meaning you will
have to reinstall your programs that are not on the disk ( oem) and all your
Windows updates, including SP2..that's why it's nice to A: have a SP2 disk,
and B: have a slipstreamed disk that contains your os and is current with
your updates..but I digress.
Now, as far as the STOP message..maybe it can be resolved here. what is the
exact Stop error? Example,
Stop 0x00000077" or "KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR
