Reinstalling Windows XP Pro on another laptop

I installed a Windows XP Pro upgrade on an old Laptop (pentium II) to use after surgery. The laptop turned out to be way too slow and took forever to load. So I went out and bought a new Sony Vaio Laptop (P4 2.33 MHZ, 1 Gig RAM) which came pre-loaded with XP Home edition. I will be using only the Vaio now, mostly for wireless networking. I want to use the upgrade I puchased for my old laptop on the new one. I understand you can only use the disk once. How can I load the upgrade on the Vaio?

Just do it, you should be able to re-install it as many times as you want.
It will activate on-line every 120 days otherwise you have to use the
automated activation. After say two installs you'll talk to someone tell
them anything you want.

Hi,

Go ahead and install it. If it has been less than 120 days since you
activated it on the old laptop, you will be prompted to phone in the
activation. All you need do is tell them exactly what you told us. If it's
been more than 120 days, then you will likely activate over the 'net
automatically.

The above applies to retail versions, most OEM full versions are permanently
tied to the first machine they are activated on and cannot be moved to a new
system.

Greetings --

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on, and install
it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you
might have to make a 5 minute phone call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:

Piracy Basics - Microsoft Product Activation

Windows Product Activation (WPA)
http://www.aumha.org/a/wpa.htm

Be forewarned, however, they changing the OS on the Sony Vaio will
very probably void its warranty.

Provided it was a retail, and not one of the 'OEM' copies that are
around (the license for one of them is solely to the initial machine),
then scrub it from the old one, eg by formatting, or by restoring its
original system, and install on the new. When it comes to activation,
if it is more than 120 days since you last did it, you will find it will
go through on the net just like first time. If not, you will have to
phone a toll-free number that will be given, to explain and swap one
long number for another to check back as you type it in

But think first - do you *really* need Pro on a laptop? Unless you are
connecting into a network that needs it to be a full member of a domain,
there is not much that Pro offers extra that is needed on a laptop
