How difficult is it- once I've reinstalled XP after it crashed- to
reinstall microsoft outlook (i.e the inbox/ address book/ calendar,
etc)?

Any help gratefully received.

Microsoft Outlook is NOT part of Windows. IF it came with your computer
your dealer added it as a separate package POSSIBLY as part of Microsoft
Office. You will have to install Office or a separate Outlook package.
Use the "Add or remove programs" Applet in the Windows XP Control Panel
(in the second column when you click the "Start" button on the Windows
XP task bar). Depending on the version you may be prompted to enter a
product key and/or activate the application (may require an internet
connection or telephone call).

Note that while there is some overlap with the email capabilities,
Outlook and Outlook Express are two different applications.
