Reinstalling AD on multiple servers.

During this process of migrating one server out and another into its primary role, the outgoing server did what we feared - died. Now i have the (new) main server saying "Naming server cannot be located. The server is not operational" whenever i try to launch AD users/computers, sites/services, domains/trusts. The other servers on the network are all still looking for the now dead server for replication/authentication. I tried dcpromo'ing them down to regular servers, but in all cases (4 servers, all DC's, including new server) they came back "cannot find DC for tonkin.com domain." So im faced with 4 servers, all running different configurations, unable to DC out. I'm not opposed to taking out AD completely and starting from scratch (its really messed up), but I do not want to reformat. Will a reinstall over the top remove AD? Any way to manually take it out, then start fresh

Thank you very much

Was the removed server the DNS server to the domain?
If so did you replace it?
Did you point all the clients of the AD domain to the new DNS server ?

Well, little bit of update. We managed to find a spare dual athlon mobo to replace the old servers, so it is now online. I want to make sure to do this right. What all do i need to do to promote the new server (TPC) as FSMO and general commander and chief of tonkin.com? I should transfer: Domain Naming Master, RID, PDC, Infrastructure, Schema. Anything I'm missing? I'm familiar with Domain naming, RID, PDC, and infrastructure, but how exactly do i go about transfering Schema? And I'm certain there's one im missing

Thank you again

You will need to transfer/seize the 5 FSMO roles to the new server.
