reinstalliation of XP pro

Recently I had to purchase a new product key due to my copy of windows was no
longer valid. I put it the new install cd and went through the install
process. Now when it restarted and I try and log in, it says that this copy
has to be verified by microsoft in order to continue, so I click on yes.
After a few moments pass I get an error saying: The instruction at
"0x604a296e" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory cannot be read.
Click on OK to terminate the program. Click on CANCEL to debug the program.
That is as far as I can go. What can I do to fix this problem?

This is the complete error:
Activate Windows: msoobe.com - Application Error
The instruction at "0x604a296e" referenced memory at "0x00000000".
The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the prgram.
Click on CANCEL to debug the program.

Need help!!
