Reinstalled XP SP2 - Fatal Error prevents Setup from Finishing

Guest

I reinstalled XP SP2 because I got a missing or corrup System file upon
starting PC.
I replaced the system file with the system.sav file and ran a check disk and
it fixed the 2 corrupt files it found. Then I was asked to put the XP CD in,
so I did.
I stated the XP installation (for some reason) and when it's about 10% left
to complete the install I get a
FATAL ERROR: Fatal error prevents setup from continuing. Setup will now
restart your PC and try again. If this error continues Cancel Win XP when
your computer restarts.
This has happened twice and I don't know what I should do. I don't want to
wipe the HD because there is some accounting files that are needed and there
is no backup.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

Joanne, usually when you replace the Registry Hives ( System, Software,
Security, Sam and Default ) you replace them all.
Did you install a second copy of WinXP or reinstalled on top of the
corrupt XP? You could try a Repair Install.
Check here on how to do it. Pay close attention to Step 3
