Reinstallation of XP from Linux Fedora Core 4

To anyone who can help-
While I was away in Europe, my friend formatted my laptop hard drive and
installed Red Hat Fedora core 4 as my only operating system. I've tried to
reinstall Xp from my installation disk, but when I boot from the disk, the
screen just goes blank and I have to restart my system. I have a Dell
inspiron 5160 with HT technology. I thought it would boot from the BIOS but I
think it has something to do with the linux bootloader or something. I don't
know much about Linux at all to do anything with that. I am looking for some
instructions to follow. Thanks to anyone with the knowledge to tackle this
problem.

If your laptop had a hidden restore partition and your friend deleted it
when installing Linux then you'll have to contact Dell to purchase a set of
restore CD's. If he didn't delete it then you may be able to boot with a
Linux boot CD and delete the boot loader and Linux partitions. Then you
should be able to do the restore through the BIOS. It is a complicated
procedure. If your friend can't or won't help you then ordering the Dell
CD's is probably the way to go.

I just did the same thing - installed a new drive that had FC4 on it,
because the old Laptop drive died, and the Windows XP Prof cd would not
get past the initial Windows screen and would not even start the
install.

What I did was boot to FC4, at least part day, then I did a HELP
command, found the FDISK command, removed the partitions and Write it to
disk - this removed all partitions from the drive. Once I did that XP
would install perfectly.
