Is there a way of reinstalling the os without loosing
everything that is on the disk drive? I know I'Ve done it
with some success in Win 98se.

In order to do an upgrade I am assuming that I need to be
able to get into Windows, which I cannot. What now???

Guy

All you need to do is make sure your BIOS is set up to boot from
CDROM. Then drop in your XP Home (I assume you have Home since there
is no "Family Edition") CD and restart the computer. When the option
appears, select a "Repair Install" (NOT the repair console) and follow
the prompts. There is no need to access windows to do this as it will
all run of the CD
