how do i reformat my hard drive to reinstall xp when my

Don't need the floppy, change your bios to boot from cd. The XP cd is
bootable and will allow you to format your disk and then reinstall.

Windows XP format/reinstalls are done from the Windows XP CD. If your
system is fairly new, your System Setup (BIOS) should have the CD drive set
as the first boot device. If your system won't boot from the CD: Power on
your system, and look at the all screens BEFORE the Windows logo. One of
them should say something like: F10 for System Setup, or F1 Setup.
Different systems have different keys to press to enter the System Setup
(BIOS). If you can't find that information on a screen: If your system
came with any manuals look there. If your system didn't come with
documentation, go to the web site of the maker and find the information
there. Once you're in System Setup (BIOS), look for the option to change
the order/sequence of Boot devices, and set the CD drive to be first. Then
save your settings and exit. Then with the Windows XP disk in the CD drive,
reboot your system and Windows Setup should start.

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered
the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of
the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of
boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Even if you didn't have a floppy drive problem, the answer is the
same: boot from the XP CD and follow the prompts for a clean
installation. It will reformat for you as part of the process.

With XP, the only time you may need to use the floppy drive to install
is when your CD rom drive, for whatever reason, cant be used as a boot
device.

Sadly, even tho you have a modern system, for whatever reason, even with
all your bios settings correct, this function is often one of the things
to go. My only guess is that the cdrom drive gets a tad worn out and
just cant deal with it.

Still, I stongly insist that every PC have a working floppy drive.
