Reinstall xp home without reformat

Due (I'm sure) to the manufacturer's error, my hd has two partitions: small
for ghost.exe, and large for windows and all other programs and data.
Windows doesn't start properly at the moment due to a corrupted file or
two. Is there any way to reinstall xp home without a prior reformat so as
to save all my data?
I've tried to install disk that came with the computer to no avail.

John, if you have a WinXP CD you can try a Repair Install.

If not you can try a System Restore.
On next Startup Tap F8 repeatedly until you get a Menu. If yes,
select Safe Mode. If XP boots up Ok in Safe Mode
Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
