My 2 year old HP's hard drive lost the partition formatting. The data is
being professionally recovered but in the meantime, I need to reinstall xp on
a new hard drive. The OEM recovery disks are worthless because it's not the
same make/model hard drive (when would it ever be?). I could purchase a full
blown $200 xp home and move on, but hey, I've already bought it, right? So,
tell me if y'all think this will work... I use an old 98 or me disk to
install on the new hard drive, then use an upgrade version of xp that I
bought for a different computer over that, then activate it with the original
product key that came with my problematic computer. I asked the Microsoft
free phone support guy if he thought that was legit and would work and he
thought it would... Anybody?
