reinstall without loosing everything

I heard that i can reinstall my program and not loose
such things as my emails and ms word files. My computer
reboots when I ask it to shut down. Anyone else familiar
with this problem and how to reinstall XP?

Before you re-install, look at the power setting and options
in control panel to see if that is the selected option.
