Reinstall problem

My Dell desktop has had so many programmes installed and uninstalled over the
years that it has become unbearably slow. I'm trying to reinstall Windows XP
Home edition from the cd.
I insert the cd and as soon as the Dell logo appears, press the F12 key to
enter boot sequence. I can tab down to boot from the cd; I can get the blue
Windows screen as it begins loading the various drivers. However, as soon as
it changes to the Windows XP Setup screen (where I have to choose between
Repair, Install, or exit), the computer stops responding to the keyboard so I
can't press Enter to continue with the reinstallation. Anyone any ideas as to
what I can do ?
Kind regards,
Trevor

If this is a USB keyboard check the BIOS/CMOS settings to see if there is an
option to enable it. Another option might be to try a PS/2 keyboard for the
install.
