Reinstall OS - Windows activation

I have a laptop that came with an installation CD, but unfortunately I have
lost the OS CD and now I need to reinstall the OS (Windows XP Home). If I
install the OS using a CD from another PC, I will be faced with the issue of
activating windows, but since the laptop I have is already having licensed
version of windows, how do it get this activated again? I would like to know
the procedure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The smartest and easiest thing to do is to contact the laptop mftr. and
get a replacement install disk.

If for some reason you can't do that, you may be able to install with a
generic OEM XP Home. You will use the Product Key on the bottom of your
laptop and phone in activation.

Already contacted the mftr, they are unable to provide origial CD for this
model as its 3yrs old....so I think I will go by your solution, do you know
the Microsoft number to call - I am assuming that it is a US number and is
there additional charges for this from Microsoft? .... Thanks!

Make sure you use a generic OEM Home disk unless you can find a local
professional who has an OEM install disk that is the same brand as your
laptop.

After the installation you'll be given the opportunity to activate over
the Internet. Try it because that won't hurt anything. If it fails,
you'll be presented with a toll-free phone number to call.
