Reinstall Office 2003

Before we upgrade our 9.5GB internal hard drive with a Seagate 160GB Internal
Hard Drive Upgrade Kit, we wanted to defragment the existing 9.5 GB internal
hard drive. However, since we only had 10% free space which is not adequate
to do the defragment, we uninstalled our office 2003 with the idea of using
the original CD to re-install it after the defrag.

GUESS WHAT!!

When we put the cd in the drive it doesnt re-install the Office 2003 like it
did the first time. Can any one explain this?

Can someone help us restore our Office 2003 on our computer?

Sincerely
Dick H.

Your best bet is to post your question in an MS Office newsgroup.

I looked for just such a newsgroup but could not seem to locate one. Do you
know where I can find one? Thank you for responding.

What happens when you try to re-install Office 2003?
Do you get an error message? What is the EXACT text of the error
message?

"When we put the cd in the drive it doesnt re-install the Office 2003
like it
did the first time" doesn't say much, and the batteries in my crystal
ball are flat.

Dick,

you could try this group
microsoft.public.office.setup
You'll need to post the EXACT detail of any error message you get to
receive any helpful advice.

Good Luck

You infer that you installed Office 2003 for the first time yourself, is
that right?
Or, was it pre-installed and it won't re-install properly again.
Some OEM's (Original Equipment Manufacturers) install programs from a
different CD.
When you try to re-install, the system is looking for files that may not
exist on your copy.
You need to download Windows Installer Clean Up Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
You can find this under More Information in the above link.
Use it to remove all registry references to Office 2003 and then do a
clean install from your CD.

The CD opens and shows all the files that are stored on the CD. There are an
awful lot of them and I would have no way of knowing which if any to open.

Thank you Smirnoff. I will try that. We did purchase and install it
ourselves at the same time we purchased and installed XP . I will try as you
suggest and let you know if it works. Thank you once again.

My advice was really aimed at an OEM installation. However, the registry
can still become corrupt and removing all references to Office 2003 with
WICU utilty, should allow you to do a clean install.

Hey good buddy it worked. My system is a bit slow now but I think it is
because of all the updates being made. I also got rid of some of the junk
programs by deleting them. Thank you for the excellent advice and direction.

Tell us what the installation process DID, not what it didn't do.

Further, tell us what YOU DID to reach the impasse. For example, did you
insert a Curt Korbain music CD?

Look for "setup.exe".

If you see it, click it.
