Hello everyone

when I start my system after the xp logo it goes to a screen that states
WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM IS MISSING OR CORRUPT

I have tried to reinstall xp but after it downloads all files it freezes on
the setup window, it will not allow the repair, continue or exit.

I have contacted Dell and all hard drives are fine they say it is software,
i am clueless when it comes to this. Please help

If you have no critical need for files that were in Windows before.
During the setup make sure you are choosing to delete the partition
that exists and let Windows create a new NTFS partition. Choose the
NTFS partition without (Quick) after it. Then let Windows install. If
there are still problems with the install freezing get another XP
install Disc. Dell should send you a replacement. A good lie is that
your system didnt come with one and your angry. :) Good luck.

To fix the "windows\system32\config\system file is mising or corrupt" where
Xp wont boot:

Go to Recovery Console and type:

cd system32\config
ren system system.old
ren system.alt systemalt.old
copy c:\windows\repair\system
copy c:\windows\repair\regback\system
exit
