Tom

If this is posted twice I apologize,
I have been having issues with my XP machine. For some reason it is now
wanting to boot to WIN98 after years of running XP, however it is missing
numerous files. For the complete thread see RE: Missing files at boot
up...in this same newsgroup.
Anyway, i can not correct the problem and was wondering if i could just
reinstall XP with out losing all my information? I have backed up everything
i can think of, but there may be some things i missed.
Thanks for the help....Tom
ps Any possiblilty a virus could do this?

how about three times!!

and starting a new thread doesn't help yourself or anyone!!!
you don't have all the info here and everyone has to look for previous post.

why didn't you stay on your OP?

Sorry about the three times. Only the last post showed up until i clicked
show all post which I didn;t even know about.
I didn't stay in the OP {old post?} because everyone said i had 98 on the
machine. Win 98 was on the machine at one time but I have been running XP
for a few years. I assume there are some files left over from 98 after the
installation of XP. I thought the easiest thing for me to do was to see if i
could reinstal XP with out to much trouble. I wasn't even sure that thread
was still being followed. I do appreciate your time and knowledge. Sorry for
any inconvience....Tom

do you know if you have a full or upgrade version of Win XP?

it's obvious you upgraded from win 98 to xp at one time and left remnants of
win 98 on your computer.

tomorrow afternoon and will try repairing or reinstalling then. I will post
the results. I still do not understand how this happened.,,,,thanks for the
help...Tom
