Regiting XP again

We have just DSL for our Church and we wish to update the system (Dell
Computers) and we are told to BUY a new compy of the XP Home since our copy
is illegal. I have contact Dell (worthless) and they say it is not their
problem and we need to re-register or software with Microsoft.

How do we do this with restoring our systems?

What are you restoring with, exactly.
What is the 'exact' err msg and at what point does it appear

dell is full of it.

it is likely that the operating
system on your dell computer
is an oem, which for all practical
purposes is an operating
system donated to your
organization with that
piece of crap.

in any case you can
look here and call the
number for assistance:

Who told you this?

The term is "activate." Registering is optional and can be done
afterwards.

What do you mean by "restoring our systems?" How many PCs are we talking
about?

Assuming it's just one PC, what do you mean by "update the system?" What
is the make and model number of your Dell? Where did you get it from?
Which operating system was on it originally? Which operating system is
on it currently? Is there a Certificate of Authenticity sticker affixed
to the case? If so, what is on it? (Don't give us the Product Key!)

Do you wish to upgrade to a newer operating system? Or are you just
making sure you have all the latest patches?

What means of restoring/reinstalling the operating system did your Dell
come with? An installation disk? A restore disk? A restore partition on
the hard drive?

Once you provide us as many details as possible, we will be able to help
you resolve your problem!
