Registry Problem

How do I remove some bad entries from the registry (found using Norton and
CCleaner) when:

The programs won't remove them.

Regedit won't allow changes in those entries, even in safe mode.

In other words, how can I remove lines from the registry "off line" or
otherwise and restore the registry without those bad entries?

Thank you.

Be careful. Norton is unreliable. If RegEdit won't let you remove them it
may be a good hint.

Are you try to this logged in as an admin? If not try again as an admin.
Backup your registry. Go to the key in the registry. Right click on the key
choose permissions from the menu, add the admin to have full control
permission on the key. Try to run the removal program again or remove the
key manually. But first read this and remember that one small mistake to the
registry and your computer will not work.

Many, many thanks. It was a "permissions" problem. I gave myself
"permission" to change each entry and deleted it.

Why do you want to remove them? Are you seeing a performance problem
that you can tie to those entries? If not leave them be.

I suppose I'm just one of those people who likes things to work they way
they are supposed to. If Norton and CCleaner both tell me I have invalid
registry keys that they can't delete, I guess I just want them deleted. so
that they don't keep coming up every time I do registry check.

That's the point. If things are working fine then there is no need to
delete them. And if the system is not running fine how do you know the
problem is due to these particular entries? Removing something from the
registry, if you don't understand what it is and have the knowledge, can
cause more problems than it ever fixes. "Cleaning" the registry rarely
produces any benefit. And IMO you are better without Norton.
