Registry pointer for Default Signature

Can someone give me the registry location for the Signature file in
Outlook?

I know where the signature file is located on the file system. However,
I need to understand how outlook knows which signature file is currently
selected. Presumably there is a pointer in the registry but I haven't
been able to find it on y own.

Thank you,

ck

Outlook 98 and Outlook 2003.

Thank you,

Subject: Re: Registry pointer for Default Signature

That's going to depend on your Outlook version.

In Outlook 2003, the signature information is stored as part of the message
profile under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\<profile
name>\9375CFF0413111d3B88A00104B2A6676. Remember that signatures in OL2003
are per-account, so each mail account will may have values for New Signature
and Reply-Forward Signature.

In Outlook 98, it depends on whether Word is the editor. If it is, the
signature is an AutoText entry named EmailSignature or something like that.
I don't recall where the default signature is kept if you're not using
WordMail, but it's easy to find if you search the registry for the name of
the signature.

I'm on Windows XP Pro with Outlook 2003 and my signature information is most
certainly not there, although my account information is.

Perhaps the signature information exists in that Registry key only when
automatic signatures are enabled. I have six signatures, all of which are
available for all accounts (they're in the folder %USERPROFILE%\Application
Data\Microsoft\Signatures) via the Signature button on the Button Bar of the
Compose window and I can find no reference to that folder anywhere in the
Registry.

Correct. If you don't have automatic signatures enabled, you have no default
signature, and nothing is stored in the registry.

There used to be a way to change the location of the Signatures folder with
a registry entry -- see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=187784 -- but I
haven't tested in on OL2003.
