Registry Permissions

I'm a little fuzzy on the issue of Registry Permissions. Can someone help
me?

I have a stand alone system at home with one user assigned. There is no need
for the level of security provided by complex Registry permissions in Win
2000 or WinXP.

I have also had a number of very difficult to find problems that have ended
up being weird registry permissions. In one case, a registry key had no
permissions assigned even for the Administrator. When I tried to update the
program, the installation program told me that it didn't exist. In another,
I had a "phantom CSID" number assigned. I manually removed it and the
problem cleared.

OK. So here is my question.....
If I assigned "everyone" full control permissions on all registry keys,
would this screw up anything (other than remove the security provided by the
permissions).

Thanks,
GKC

Start--> Run !type! regedt32 !Press Enter!

the different thing between the normal registry editor (regedit) and
regedt32 is that regedt32 can show ACL Permissions for the Registry

Thanks Chriss3,
Yes. I use regedt32. That's how I see the "permissions" and how I have
previously changed permissions to fix problems.

I'm trying to find out if there would be any problems if I add "everyone" to
every Registry key and assign "everyone" full control". The concept is to
totally neuter the permissions process so that everyone can do everything
(like Win98). i.e. I hope to never again have any problem with permissions.
