Registry issues

Last night, I was very low on disk space. I decided to delete some programs
that I didn't need anymore. Through control panel, I deleted things like .net
framework, a music program, quicktime, and some other things. I noticed at
one point my desktop do some kind of motion, but I ignored it. I restarted my
computer and logged back on to find I couldn't use the internet explorer
button and it was missing and some other shortcuts. I did a system restore
and I was able to get them back.

I updated a few programs on my computer that needed to be upgraded. I tried
to download Adobe Reader 7.0.8 and the flash player 9, photoshop trial and I
kept have registry problems. I downloaded some registry cleaners to try, and
it helped solve another problem I had prior to this with a pestrap situation.
But it didn't help my installation problems. Now, certain things I can't
install because of a HKEY problem. I tried to delete the value/key, but it
wont let me and some keys it cannot open. I installed Windows OneLive Care to
see if it could clean up any viruses etc.. and it hasn't helped and now I
can't delete it. I keep clicking remove and nothing happens. And now when I
use the internet, some images don't display.

What can I do?

It appears your system is severely corrupt. I would suggest performing
a "clean install" of Windows XP.

Arbitrarily removing and installing things can only lead to more
problems. At this point I recommend you consider backing up whatever
data, email, documents, and anything else you need from the machine,
and do a complete re-install of WinXP. That will let you start out
fresh and at the same time conserve disk space. By the way, you might
also want to look at purchasing a larger hard drive and perhaps adding
more memory to the machine at the same time. Good luck.

is there anything that I can do without having to reinstall Windows XP? Is it
possible for me to fix the registry problems? Also, is there anything I can
do to uninstall the Windows OneLive Care?

You've apparently done many things, but have been very uninformative in
decribing them. You say "I deleted things like," "and some other things," "I
updated a few programs," "I downloaded some registry cleaners," and "certain
things I can't install." But you are never specific about exactly what these
things are and what you've done.

Worse, it sounds like you've taken a shotgun approach to fixing problems,
without any real understanding of what you were doing. If one program
doesn't help, download and try another. That's almost always a prescription
for disaster.

And finally, the thing you've done that scares me the most is "I downloaded
some registry cleaners to try." Using any registry cleaner is one of the
*most* likely things you can do that will screw everything up.

Would you try to fix a car by opening up the hood and saying, "I don't what
that framus over there is for, I'll just remove it"?

I say this very seldom in the newsgroups, but you are probably best served
at this point by reformatting and reinstalling Windows and starting over
from scratch.

Next time you hve problems, *ask* what to do first--before you make things
worse.

well I will explain everything out with you in full.
1. I've had a low disk space problem for the longest time

2. I wanted to use my Windows Media Maker to make some video captures of a
video, but I needed a video converter and I wanted to use a trial of adobe
photoshop to make graphics, and download IE7.

3. I attempted to download Adobe Photoshop, but it didn't work. And by being
on the site I saw that there was a new version of flash player that I needed
to upgrade to, but I couldn't download it, as well as new Adobe Reader.

4. I logged on to a different setting and tried to download Adobe Photoshop.
Adobe Photoshop, wasn't working. I didn't have enough space to download Adobe
Photoshop. I only had 2% space left on C drive. That's when I decided to
clean some junk off my pc. I did disk clean ups and I went to the add/remove
programs and deleted what I didn't use. I deleted quicktime, .network frame,
some music program, Microsoft Picture It (it was taking up the most space), I
wish I could remember everything off head. I noticed my screen make a weird
motion and after I was done removing programs. I did a reboot, I came back on
to the same settings and noticed IE was missing and the normal shortcuts like
Outlook, Windows Media were missing. I did a system restore, not a good one
though because I didn't have many options. I could only restore to just a few
minutes before when I was inbetween deleting programs, and not from before I
started deleting programs.

5. The system restore worked. IE was back and I put all the shortcuts back
in place. At that point my goal was to just put back the programs I
downloaded. I put back quicktime,. network frame. I saw an upgrade for
Windows Media and I did that, I downloaded the Windows Live Messenger since I
had been meaning to download that for a while as well as an update for Itunes.

6. After, I attempted to download Adobe again and I got an HKEY error. I
figured my computer is just really messed up. I downloaded Windows Live
OneCare to try to clean up my pc, but it didn't work too well. In fact, I saw
a thread asking if a registry cleaner should be added. And that's what got me
to think of the idea about cleaning my registry. I looked at some of the
cleaners people used. I tried some of them. CCleaner, Winsys, Tune Up
Utilities, Registry Mechanic. I tried everything, I was just really worried
if I could make this pc work. It got rid of the annoying
pestrap I had on my computer, that I couldn't get rid of. But it didn't
solve my problem. I went back on my settings and everything besides the
Itunes I had downloaded didn't work so I had to remove them.

7. Right now, a lot of the registry keys/values wont open I can't delete
them (I know I shouldn't, but it's not even an option because it doesn't
work), my calculator is gone, I can't download the programs I want to
download due to registry errors. I can't see media players, watch videos
online it's just blank. Windows Live OneCare is stuck on my computer, it
doesn't open and I can't remove it. My games that came with the computer are
missing too, the msn games with backgammon, checkers, the games like the one
on MSN Gaming Zone.

8. I know the big solution is to reinstall Windows XP, but honestly for me
that's not an option right now. I would love to uninstall and reinstall,
actually I'd prefer to toss this hand made piece of junk out of the window
and find me a dell or apple right about now. But I can't, so I'm trying to
fine my way around this problem. I know my computer isn't any good, but I
need to manage it and just get it to do what I need it to ,and not worry
about whatever else might be wrong with it.

9. Also, it wasn't smart of me to just think that I could fix it, but then
again I didn't know about this forum and didn't care to look until I was just
out of ideas. I saw my computer wasn't working and I panicked.
