Registry Help!

How do you save a copy of the registry? How do you
restore the registry file you saved?

Windows XP professional.

start run regedit or regedt3
right mouse button on my computer under registry edito
expor
this will export your registry and you'll then have a complete copy

then to restore, i think you just import the registry back

system restore maybe a safer bet, by creating a restore point, do what you need to do, if it messes up the system go back to that restore point

On the File menu, click Export.
In the File name box, type SaveKey, and then click Save.
Or create a system restore point prior to editing.
Note: If the registry key is not there, you can simply create one by going edit

new.

Hi Rodney,

I don't recall the details but, I have read that there are shortcomings with
the native XP registry backup system. The free utility from the link below
has been recommended by many on this and other newsgroups. It is very easy
to understand and use and works well for me.
