Creating A Reg File In Notepad

Hi, hope someone will help. I've encountered instances here where
individuals have posted code to be copied/pasted into notepad, and that code
saved as a .Reg file. Is this as simple as renaming/changing the extension
of the resultant text file to .Reg? Below is one of the Web sites I am
reading to gain insight into the Registry.

http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/Registry/registry_hacks_reg.htm

Where I get hung up at is selecting "Save As" in Notepad. I have never been
able to fine the option to save the notepad file/contents to a .Reg file.

Any help is appreciated.

In Notepad's Save As box, use the dropdown arrow to change the "Save as
type" from "Text documents (*.txt)" to "All files" and then add .reg to the
end of the name in the "Filename" field above.

You should be real careful about downloading things like registry and
visual basic (.VBS) files if you don't understand what they are
doing. Some people will just instruct you to go here, download this,
double click it, and you're fixed. Chances are, there is no
commentary, no explanation of what is about to happen, but just do it.

That just doesn't work for me. I always think about what am I going
to do if I do this and end up worse? Do I understand what I just did
or am about to do well enough to be able to undo it if something goes
wrong?

Just the word "hack" in the WWW address you posted should make you a
little nervous.

If you are having a problem, what is the problem exactly?

Yes but if your going to start tinkering
with the registry first learn how to export
the key your going to modify.

Also create a new system restore before
you run the .reg file.
