Registry Error with Win XP Home Edition

Boy what a mess. :)

Had a power outage one night due to storm and PC shut down
with multiple applications running.

Power came back so turned machine on and XP booted to the
account screen, then abruptly restarted. Second time
through it rebooted, then gave the message that it had
recovered from a Registry Error using a log or backup, and
operation was successful. I then booted into XP by using
the chosen account (Non Admin with Admin privileges) only
to get the same Registry error. Now, whenever I reboot, I
get the message either at the account screen, or at the
desktop one.

I have tried Norton's Utilities to have WinDoctor repair
problems, which it did the first time, successfully.
After doing so however, the problem remained.

I then tried using System Restore, repeatedly, going back
1 day, then 2, then 3 all the way back into September...6
times with no change whatsoever. The Registry error
window continues to pop up saying it had to fix a error by
reverting to a log or backup.

Worse, many of my applications now no longer function..my
music composition software, several of the games I play
(including the MMORPG Anarchy Online), my voice chat
programs, and on and on.

Amidst all of this, the system still randomly reboots
during execution of some of these applications without any
warning.

I should also point out, thanks to a mad cleaning spree by
my fiance', that my XP CD was apparently thrown out amidst
a pile of bubble-wrap. Fortunately XP was activated using
my key and information, as appropriate.

Ergo, no CD, and a system prone to rebooting randomly and
suffering Registry errors every time I boot.

How do I fix this and return to a stable system?
