Registry entries question

I have noticed from other postings here that the
following registry entries should be checked:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\SearchUrl
""="http://home.microsoft.com/access/autosearch.asp?p=%s"
" "="+"
"&"="%26"
"+"="%2B"
"#"="%23"
"?"="%3F"
"="="%3D"
I don't have these, do I need them? I have asked at
SpywareInfo support forum but they have not answered me.

Also HKEY_USES\.DEFAULOT\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main
"Search Bar"="http://search.msn.com/intl/searchpane/en-au/
prov2.htm"
(mine says:
"Search Bar"="http://g.msn.com/OSEENUS/SA0501)
which is correct?
I have XP Home, IE 6 with all patches and fixes, have ran
Spybot S&D, Ad Aware and HijackThis. (the IEFIX in Hijack
This did not work)
I've been having problems trying to browse the web using
MSN Search and wondered if this could be the problem.

Hi Mary,

Unless you've installed an optional toolbar (such as the GoogleToolBar, or
the Microsoft KB search tool), you should not see anything but:
http://home.microsoft.com/access/autosearch.asp?p=%s (just the text... not
the hyperlink - as it shows up in this post) in the first line,
and provider with nothing in the data field (for default searching)

I think you should restore the entries to the defaults to begin your
troubleshooting.

Any extra search tools, like the two I mentioned above, would show as sub
folders under the SearchUrl folder, and might indeed have entries similar to
those you posted.

In the HKEY_USERS section of your post, I think you should delete the
"Search Bar". This should restore your default search ability.

One word of caution.... set a restore point prior to editing the registry,
and name it something you'll recognize easily - so you'll have something to
go back to should your edits cause you more problems (not so much with this
type of edit, but edits in general). Be very careful about editing
*anything* in your registry without paying careful attention to typing... a
typo could be disastrous, as well as obscure any troubleshooting
methodology.

Sorry my suggestions are not comprehensive, but they should get you to a
point where you can run your browsing searches.

Please post back with your results.
Good luck,
-Lawrence in Seattle
