Registry editor disabled

Hi, I'm wondering if someone could help me solve a
problem. Everytime if try to run regedit or regedt32 I'm
gettting the following error:

"Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator"

Well, I am the administrator and I'm also the only
profile on this Windows XP home computer. I'm trying to
learn why this may have happened and how I can fix it.

Any advice is greatly appreciated,

Regards, Randy

When you say you are the administrator does that mean you
are logging on as the administrator or your account with
administrator rights? If it is the later make sure your
user name is in fact in the administrators group.

I spent hours on a win98 machine that had this problem, it was infected
with the Bagle-N virus, the NetSky-D and MyDoom viruses, along
with a multitude of spyware.
After cleaning the machine the only way I could run regedit was to
copy it from another machine onto floppy and load it in at a command prompt.
The problem was that the Bagle virus infects the exe file and the Antivirus
program
either deletes or renames it, so it can't be used. If you try changing the
name back
access is denied.
on XP you could try Start/run and type sfc /scannow to install a new copy of
regedit. you will need your XP CD.
