In every article, etc., I've read that ever had anything to do with
the registry, the warning has been prominent: always back up the
registry before making any changes. Sounds good to me - but I don't
remember ever seeing exactly how to back it up, or exactly what to
back up. Is it the registry.dat file, or something called the
mozregistry.dat file? What exactly should be backed up, and is there
anything wrong with just backing it up regularly whether the registry
is being accessed or not?

Hi

Backing up the Registry is a must if you are going to manually edit it. A small program called ERunt will backup and restore the Registry for you - it can even be used in 'DOS' to restore the Registry:

Please read/download the accompanying documentation.
