Registry editing has been disabled by administrator

Recently, for some reason, every time when I turn on my
computer this message "Registry editing has been disabled
by administrator" will pop up. Or if I try to click on
the regedit under Windows folder.

Plus, my default page for Internet Explorer has been
changed to some weird sites. And if I try to go to
Internet Options to change it, I find that the address
field has been disabled.

Since my machine is running XP with only one user account,
I do not know how to gain administrator rights to correct
the situation.

May someone be able to help me.

Thank you in advance.

Click Start, then click Control Panel
Under Pick a Category click User Accounts
A window pops up that says Pick a task or pick an account
to change
click on your user account
Another window pops up that says What do you want to
change about your account?
Click Change my account type
Another window pops up that says Pick a new account type
Choose Computer administrator
Then click Change Account Type and you will need to
restart your computer. I hope this helps you.

See www.dougknox.com, Security, Disable/Enable Registry Editing Tools. This
small VB Script will remove this restriction. If the first time the script
is run it says "Disabled", run it again.
