Registry crash and recovery

My registry has crashed giving in hive file giving the
error

c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load
the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE or
its log or alternate

I have found the process to recover the registry in
Q307545. However, my problem is that the when i give
command of copy software in the recovery mode it says file
could not be copiued. All the other files are copied just
fine except the software. i dont want to go ahead and
delete the registry entries without a backup of the
software file.

Sounds like you have a file sysem problem or maybe even a drive problem.
Run chkdsk /r from recovery console and see what it tells you.
