If i know the cd key on the pc i have... can i put in a different windows xp
cd in other than the original but put in the original cd key for registration?

Your Product Key will only work with an identical
version of the Windows XP CD it came with. If it
is an "OEM" Product Key, it will not work with a
"Retail Version" of Windows XP, and vice versa.

Hi,

As long as it is the same type: home/pro, retail/OEM, etc, then yes.
Otherwise not.

Yes, as long as it's the same type of CD (Home vs Professional,
Full vs Upgrade, retail vs OEM). Otherwise no.
