I have just bought a computer (being delivered with a host
of factory installed softwares) and I would like to know
how to go about registering these softwares with
MicroSoft.

My current system is Windows 98 second edition. Every so
often MicroSoftw would login and inform me of upgrades,
and give me the option to select the updates I need. I
like this service. It keeps my system updated with not
much effort on my part.

My new system is Windows XP Professional with the suite of
professional softwares (Office, etc). These came with the
computer, from the manufacturer.

My big question is how do I register this new system and
other product softwares with MicroSoft, in order to
continue this online product update? HELP! HELP!

Thanks for you assistance.

Oscar.

click Start, Run, then type in this command and hit
enter.
%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

It wil then take you to the registration setup and you
can choose to do it online or over the phone.

Firstly, Microsoft do NOT log on to your computer, your computer connects to
Microsoft to check for any updates. his facility still exists in XP and
should be enabled by default, but if it doesn't seem to be working, open the
Help & Support center in the Start menu and search on "Auto update". That
should show you how to enable this feature. I'm not on an XP machine at the
moment and can't remember the exact steps to this option, but the help will
guide you...
