Sounds like you pirated a copy of Windows XP. Your "friend" gave a clone
CD. Your "friend" is still using that license of Windows XP (which means
you can NOT use the same license). If your "friend" actually gave you
Windows XP then you would have received the CD with the Microsoft 3D logo
label, the trifold wallet (unless an OEM version, which is also illegal to
separate from the hardware to which that OEM license was attached; you don't
get to transfer OEM licenses to different computers).
If it was an OEM version, the product key should have been on a sticker on
the shrink wrap. This label gets attached to the backside of the computer
since that OEM license is perpetually attached to just that computer and you
cannot transfer the software license to another computer.
If your "friend" gave you a retail version of Windows XP then you should
have the product key on a sticker inside the CD wallet that was in the
package.
Without the product key, you do not have a legal copy of Windows XP. If it
is a retail version, make sure it has Microsoft's 3D logo on the CD's label.
The product key is on a sticker. If it is an OEM version, it cannot be
transferred it was ever installed and activated on another computer. If an
unactivated OEM version, your "friend" must still give you the sticker that
was on the shrink wrap that had the product code.
Really sounds like you're asking how to pirate software.
