I am working on Windows 2000 Professional. Due to some unavoidable reasons, I had to re-install Win2K Pro. After successfully doing so, when I click 'System' in the 'Control Panel', I am shown that the computer is registered to 'ABCD' (under the 'General' tab). What I would like to know is can this name be changed in anyway i.e. can I change the name 'ABCD' to something else?

Also, is it possible for Win2K Pro to become corrupt (the only solution being install Win2K Pro again) if the 'Reset' button on the CPU is used many a times (say, 20-25 times a day)?

Thanks,

Arpan

You must change it in the Registry. You should find it as "RegisteredOwner" under this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

Thanks, wmarston, for your suggestion. I had already implemented your suggestion before I posted my question but that does not solve my problem. It still shows the "Registered to:" name as ABCD & not the new name which I changed ABCD to. Any other solution???????

Thanks once again,

Regards,

Hey... I looked at wMarston's suggestion out of curiosity, and happened to
select the "UserProfiles" tab under Control Panel>System...

I see a few, but not all, of the existing user accounts on this computer.
... but most perplexing is a profile named "Account Unknown" which
was modified TODAY...?

I'm wondering:

1) Is this "Account Unknown" something I should be concerned about?

2) Is this profile list apparantly incomplete because these are profiles for
other users logging onto my computer via LAN, in which case, "Account
Unknown" DOES concern me!

3) Could "Account Unknown" be from logging into my computer from a Mac?

Any insights?

Chris
