regedit

Hi can someone please help me,when i go to start then run i type regedit or
regedit.exe i dont get a popup screen i get taken to regedit,with list of
titles on the left and on the right it says regedit value not set.i know i
have a problem somewhere because its the same when i try to uninstall
anything such as real player,i get a message windows cannot find the file.and
when i try to install real player i get windows encounted a problem.i know
its a lot to ask but i need help.
