When I attempt to run "regedit"rom the Run dialogue box,
the regedit screen appears for 1-2 seconds then
disappears. Help.

Hi,

Start/run cmd

Run "copy %windir%\regedit.exe %windir\regedit.com"

Close the command prompt. Start/run regedit.com

Then update your antivirus software and run a full system scan, you are
likely infected.

That's a common symptom of a virus. A common tactic is to rename
regedit.exe to regedit.com, but some newer viruses also prevent you from
doing that. In that case, you're best to try to identify the virus, then
use another machine to download a fix tool to diskette, write protect it,
and run it.

Also, you can try using an online virus scanner, like Trend Micro's:
