I'm running Windows XP Pro and am having a problem with my
Task Manager and Registry Edit. Upon reading up on various
newsgroups I can re-enable the Task Manager using gpedit.msc.
This works for the time that I do this until I restart my
computer. Once I log back in and everythings finished
loading, I press CTRL+ALT+DEL and receive the error "Task
Manager has been disabled by the Administrator" I then go
to Run - regedit and receive the message "Registry Editing
has been disabled by the Administrator"
The problem is even when I AM logged in as the
"Administrator", I still get this. Also I logged in as the
primary user, and my UserName is set with Administrative
privilages. Ive never had a problem running Task Manager or
regedit before. I know for a fact that I personally didnt
do anything prior to this message. Im not positive if
anything was downloaded that had a virus that changes these
settings.
I have Norton AntiVirus 2003, updated it just before
running a scan, and found nothing after it finished. I even
went so far as to use System Restore to see if I could
return my computer to a week before the last time I
remember using Task Manager, and it didnt help anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as Id like to at
least be able to run Task Manager, but prefer my windows
settings to be returned to normal.
