Regarding Folder Redirection in group policy and roaming profile

I have created a roaming user under an OU and applied folder redirection
group policies on it. In other words, I have applied group policies so that
'my documents' and 'desktop' folders of any user under the OU would be
redirected to each respective shared folder on DC. However seeing that
redirecting 'desktop' folder is quite pointless and actually makes the logon
process slower, I have changed my mind and deleted that portion of group
policy. I have also deleted the shared folder for 'desktop', thinking it
wouldn't be needed anymore.

But when I log on as the user thru another machine, it still looks for the
shared folder for the desktop portion of the profile. I mean I have deleted
the group policy, shouldn't the user stop using the shared folder? and
shouldn't the desktop profile follow the user? But apparently it's not
happening.

Can I do anything for the user to stop looking for the deleted shared
folder?

Thanks in advance!
