I'm using a PC with WinXP-pro. Recently did a registry backup before
installing new software, and wondered if could poll some opinions as to what
you do with the backup file after done

( ) I delete it right after I know he installation was good
( ) I keep it on desktop for about a week, then delete it if not needed
( ) I keep it a long time, just in case
( ) Other _________________

Alos, the file I created was...
RegistryBackup20060611.reg

If I double-click on this file, which is true...

( ) It instantly installs the backup on top of the existing registry and
the only way to recover is to re-boot
( ) It first asks "are you sure?", then installs the backup on top of the
existing registry and there is no way to recover at all because when you
re-boot, it saves the last-used version

Thanks,
George

How did you create the registry backup? From the file name I'm guessing it
was with regedit. This probably won't work to repair a corrupted registry.
It will merge the backup file with the current registry overwriting keys
that are the same and leaving new keys since the backup in place. Before
installing software create a system restore point or use a registry backup
program like erunt.
