Refurbished HP lasers in Canada?

Ben Myers

I don't know of any Canadian sellers of refurb HP LaserJets, but I have to make
a strong endorsement for the LaserJet 4, LaserJet 4+, LaserJet 4M, LaserJet 4M+,
or LaserJet 5/5M instead of the LaserJet III. The LJ III was good for its time,
but the relatively newer printers are more trouble-free mechanically (for
example, easier to clear jams), occupy less space, print faster, print at 600
dpi, easier to repair... Ben Myers

I'll stand back and take the flames of others, but...

Avoid the LJ 3p, 4p, 5p, 4L, 5L. All they have in common with the better
printers is the name "LaserJet" and a number. They are phyisically quite
different, much slower, and not as well made.

Likewise the 3Si, 4Si, 5Si and variants are huge monster printers well suited
for a larger office, not for individual use, which is what I'm guessing you
need.

As far as the 4/4+/4M/4M+/5/5M, get a JetDirect card, too. Networking one of
these printers leads to smoother and faster operation, even if only one computer
is connected. Even a 10BaseT 10 megabit Ethernet connection is MUCH faster than
the older slower Centronics parallel port... Ben Myers

Thank you for that bit of info Ben! It's very interesting, I'm going to get
one now.

Hi,
Does anybody here happen to know of a dealer selling
refurbished HP laser printers in Canada?
I'm looking for a decent HP LJ 3/4.

Staples, Compusmart.

Also, don't overlook your local independent computer shop.
If they know what you want, they usually find what you are
looking for, though you may have to wait a while. And they
are more willing to help you when you have troubles -
service is their only advantage over the big-box stores.

Are you willing to pay the shipping charges from Lethbridge? I have a
fully refurbished HP-III with an additional 8Mg memory installed and a
3/4 full cartridge. $65.00 plus G.S.T. plus shipping I'll also
include the Letter Paper Tray . If you want the Legal Size tray,
that's an additioanl $20.00. The cartridge will be sealed in a
ziplock bag and seperate box inside the shipping box . If interested,
e-mail me at (e-mail address removed). Leave out the you know
what from the email address.

Pardon me for sticking my big nose into the dialog again. An LJ-III with
8(???)MB of memory? The largest memory card for an LJ-III is 4MB. The LJ-III
has 1MB built-in. That adds up to 5MB, which is also the max supported by the
various Windows drivers.

Or was there an add-in board late in the game with 8MB? ... Ben Myers

Hi Frank,
I would prefer to get something I can see before purchase,
so I will continue to try locally, and maybe get back to
you in about a week.
