notice that there is a serial key on the botttom of my laptop so if i
reformat and am asked for my serial key for windows XP would that 25-digit cd
key be the one i need?

That is the OEM product key for your version of Windows. That is to ONLY be
used with the XP CD that came with your laptop. Honestly, you don't even
need to enter it in on a version of Windows XP that came from a PC maker
about 95% of the time or more.

Is the 25-character "number" called the Product Key? Then that is the key
you need. You also need a disk, of course, or a hidden sector on your HD.

Hitting F10 when your computer is first turned on or just after a restart
will access said hidden partition.

That is the key to be used along with whatever method the Laptop
manufacturer provides to re-install XP.. you will have to refer to your
manual or contact the vendor if you have not already..

Maybe on your computer; certainly not mine.

Every computer and laptop is different. Every BIOS is different.
Sometimes the same BIOS manufacturer may have different revisions that
use different access keystrokes.

The point is: Don't give information like this as though it is the
one and only true way to do things. It is most certainly incorrect.

Technically, I don't have a recovery partition, as my computer was built by
for me. :p

To be more accurate: Avaratec (i think) is the Del key, and Dell doesn't
have a recovery partition.

ROTFL! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! <grin>

Cheers!
