Reformatting C: Drive & Reinstall Windows 2000 PRO

Jeff

I'm trying to reinstall my Windows 2000 O/S. Ideally I would like to
reformat the entire C: drive(cuurrent boot drive) and start fresh, as I have
already moved everything to a new hard drive.
but when I try to reformat the C: drive from the Windows 2000 CD it says
this can't be done and that I must delete the partition first, yet when I
attempt to do this, I see this is impossible as the option doesn't appear.

Can somebody help me??

Boot off of the CD and click "d" on the partition. Don't start Setup from
Windows

I am having the same problem. I tried booting off the CD, but option "d" simply isn't there. It tells you that that is one of the things you can do, but when you look at the bottom, the only 2 options there are Quit, or Install a copy of Win2000. I am about at my wits end and thinking of ripping the HD out and just setting magnets on it!

- What is Option "d"? Where do you see it? How did you get there?
- What are you actually trying to do - format the disk & do a clean
installation of Win2000?

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.
