Reformatting a hard drive.

then he could do either couldn't he?
He could also remove that hard drive and hammer a 5" nail through it and
then go out and purchase a new hard drive. There's all sorts of things he
could do you Wintard. He could also go out and purchase a new computer.

To suggest that reformatting his hard drive just to get from FAT32 to NTFS
when Windoze provides a tool to do it non-destructively is an idiotic
suggestion. But, you still don't seem to get it or have too much ego to
admit that your suggestion was just plain stupid.

Yes, he could.
Yes he could do either. Except one way will save him alot of time and hassle
if he has data on that drive he wants to preserve and one would expect that
is the case since he's got the drive and has been using it. So what was
your point again in agreeing with that Wintard?

If you carefully read the title of this post, you'll find what
"reformating" means
If you carefully read the actual post by the OP, you'll find out how to
properly ascertain what the OP wants to accomplish.

Well in MY humble opinion, the OP was ambiguous......
So he's had both.

In addition: To change from FAT32 to NTFS on an external drive is not
a good idea. This has been my experience.

You are correct. The whole idea of having an external drive is to afford
portability. Having it remain as FAT32 allows one to use it on other
operating systems such as Linux and OSX. Going with a proprietary format
like NTFS limits its use to Windoze XP/2000.
