Hello guys! ( hopefully you can help me )

Well about a week ago, our machine got a hole bunch of viruses, so i backed
up all the parents photos and things i needed, and i was like " ill just
reformat it". so i slam my windows xp home disk in and follow the prompts. i
chose Advanced ( new-install) and i installed on the C partition. anyway ! so
when i finally turned it on 1 hour later >.> i find that it did not delete
the hardrive and start fresh IT HAS all the old systems files still sitting
on the C drive. so basically is there a way using the windows xp home disk to
delete the hole dard drive and start new?

thanks guys !!

I do not think that the installation process can "delete the hole
dard drive" but it can certainly delete any or all existing partitions.
Just watch for the spot where it asks you for a destination, then
select the option that lets you delete / create / format the existing
option.

BTW, it's not a good idea to back up your important files
when disaster stares you in the face. Many people get caught
with this attitude and we get to see their posts full of anguish.
You should back them up to an independent medium once
every week.

If you wish to start a fresh C drive when installing windows you need to
delete the C partition first.
So insert CD and reboot, when you get to the setup screen it asks where you
wish to install windows. Before you select that drive you want to delete
the C. It will say in the text "to delete a partition press L (or whatever
letter it is I canot recall). So highlight the C then press the correct
button it says to delete. Then you go to create a partition in the same
space (highlight "unpartitioned space"") and press the corresponding button
to create a partition. Then you can go on to install windows on the C after
that. It will say it wants to format the drive and you select FAT32 or
NTFS - NTFS is what most people use for XP but either will work.
These instructions are vague as they are from memory and I apologise for
that but I am sure you get the idea. Basically read what it says on the
setup screen for deleting and creating partitions and follow the prompts.
Its all there and you can't really go wrong too much :-)

Here are better instructions than I gave in my previous post.

If you have a printer then print it off ready to format.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

You do realize that you backed up the viruses?

You cannot use any old data from an infected computer until you grow up and
begin acting responsibly by having an updated antivirus application
installed.

Until then, do not bother re-installing windows.
