Reformat Windows XP from Upgrade disk?

I know I can do a reformat with the upgrade disk but what I don't know is
will I need to have
the original OEM Windows ME disk and key code? I have the disk but not the
product key
for ME unless it is on the back of the computer (I haven't looked yet and
don't want to unless
I have too. It is not easy to get to). I do have the XP upgrade with product
key so I am good there.
Thanks.

You will only need to pop the qualifying app in the cd when winxp complains
that it cannot find a qualifying app.

No you don't need the license key. When doing a clean install with the
upgrade CD it will ask you to insert the CD from the qualifying product as
proof of ownership.

All you should need is the Windows ME CD. Early in the
installation, you'll be asked to provide "qualifying media".
Take your XP upgrade disk out of your CD drive and put in the
ME CD. After it accepts the ME CD, you can put your XP CD back
in and continue with the installation.

Good luck

It is possible to perform a clean installation using the WinXP
Upgrade CD.

Simply boot from the WinXP Upgrade CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. The Upgrade CD checks to see if a qualifying OS
is installed, and, if it finds none, it asks you to insert the
installation media (CD) of that OS. Unfortunately, an OEM
"Recovery/Restore" CD will not work for this purpose; you must have a
true installation CD, complete with the "\Win98" folder and *.cab
files, or the "\i386" folder of WinNT/2K.
