Referencing a numbered bullet

Hello,

If I have the following..

1. something something

2. something described in (1.)

In #2 I want to reference #1 automatically. If #1 becomes 2 and 2 becomes 3
then I would like the reference to pick up #2.

Can this be done? I hope this makes sense.

Insert a cross-reference to the paragraph number of the first paragraph.
Cross-references can be updated with F9 or by switching to Print Preview and
back.

To insert a cross-reference, use the Cross-reference dialog box. To display
this dialog box: In Word 2003, click Insert | Reference | Cross-reference.
In Word 2007, click the References tab. Click Cross-reference in the
Captions group.
