I reinstalled xp home now on start up it wants me to
chose one of them.. Only one works, how do I remove the
other reference???

Go in to your system properties (windows + pause),
click advanced tab, under startup and recovery hit settings, and under
system startup hit edit, and you can erase the old installation. becareful
not to erase the wrong one. If you don't want t o be brave enough to do that
uncheck the first box in system startup.

[operating systems]
signature(d354d354)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)
\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft
Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect

True that the original "that does not work" is listed
first??? because on boot i select the second in the order

Sounds right to me.
