Reference Memory Error

Hi,
can anyone help.

I have a client's machine which is an XPsp2 machine newly built. The
machine is started up and left at the logon screen, so nothing is running, it
comes up with an error.

"msiexec.exe - Application Error. The instruction "0x774fd35e" referenced
memory at "0x67609a6c". The memory could not be "written".

The client is understandably concerned.

Does anyone know what could be causing this, and therefore how I might fix it.

Thanks.

Also, having clicked ok, it came up with a 2nd message.

svchost.exe - application error. The instruction "0x7460f490" referenced
memory at "0x645f29b0". The memory could not be "read".

Does this make it any clearer?

Any help will be gratefully received. New machine and new build.

Since it is a new machine, it is already old :)

Sounds like a windows update.
I remember that happening with .NET.

It takes a while, but ensure all Windows updates are installed.
Choose custom from www.windowsupdate.com and go through and check software and drivers.

MSIEXEC is the windows installer that installs items after the computer
has been rebooted.

I would also look in the Event Viewer if there is anything else suspect

Hi,
Msiexex.exe is Windows installer service, this the Installer which prompt
you to install any new software if you preferred to use windows Installer as
your default installer instead of the software installer ( third-party),
sometimes can be configured to start on reboot or it prompt you to Restart
your computer after
Installation of a software or updates from MS site.
Your Error Runtime message indicate that there is a new software of some
kind installed and the installation wasn't successful.
Path for the Installer here:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe

How to resolve Common "Windows Installer" Problems

Download the latest Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) is available
here:

Try to make sure that this machine is clean from Viruses (although you said
new, it just need 30 seconds to get junked and infected) and ask the Client
Nicely if He/She installed any software or hardware recently and also check
your Cables connection in the Case are firmly fitted.
