ref field length changing on update

I have added a fill in field in my document called "Name". I create a
bookmark with this field. I then added a Ref field to bookmark "Name". then I
save as a template. when I open doc and fillin prompt, the ref field does not
hold formatting, even thought the preserve formatiing box is checked.

Part of the Name stays formatted but the rest displays the formatting of the
fillin field (both fields have different formatting)

How do I get the ref field to hold the formatting I give it?

What kind of formatting, and are you applying it to the entire field, or just
parts of it?

The only thing you can really get to work is applying font formatting to the
entire field. Anything else is going to get lost - or screwed up - as soon as
the fields update. You may need to break the fill-in / ref fields up into groups
if you have special formatting requirements.
